Hay, is your 1 wire alternator an internal regulator Delco like the one in Bob's picture? If it is, then it may only need a"field flash". That is to use a piece of insulated wire to jump from the big "BAT" stud on the alternator rear, to the #1 regulator blade terminal. If your 1 wire alternator has simply lost it's residual magnetism, jumpering this connection for an instant with the alternator running at near full speed will restore the residual magnetism and the alternator will work again. The beauty of the 1 wire Delco alternator conversions is that the ONLY difference between the 1 wire alt and a standard 3 wire is that the 1 wire is equipped with a very sensative regulator that will excite without external voltage being applied. Plus this regulator "senses" system voltage internally, so that the external #2 regulator sense wire is not needed. There is no difference in price between the 1 wire regulator and the std 3 wire ones supplied to me by a jobber. There is absolutly no difference in components, cost or battery drain between a std 3 wire Delco and a 1 wire Delco conversion besides the "special" 1 wire regulator. A 1 wire Delco conversion alternator gives you the opertunity to convert from a generator to an alternator without adding any wiring,resistors,diodes,lights,etc with the option of adding a $2 replacement Delco alternator plug from your auto parts store plus the Diode or resistor/indicator light if you want a charge indicator light or want to lower "kick in" speed. The 1 wire will work as a three wire unit, the 3 wire will not work as a 1 wire.
