The only problem I have ever encountered on a 4020 tranny is sometimes the synchronizers will go bad if it has been shifted a lot such as on a loader tractor. The gears in a used 4020 tranny usually look as good as the day it was built unless some dummy ran it out of oil. At that, it"s hard to run one out of oil since other stuff starts working funny like the three point hitch. If one is paying attention at all, he will know something is awry and start looking. If this is a late model unit with the hydraulic levers on the right side console, a lot more likely problem will be the hydraulic PTO clutch which had some updates to try to stop oil leaking.
