A cheapo 5 or 10lb dry chem ABC or a BC CO2 extinguisher is a complete and total waste of time. And a false sense of security on a class A fire. A couple of class A 2-1/2 gallon pressured water extinguishers provide the long lasting cooling and deep saturation required for class A fires. In all seriousness. A full bladder would have been better than that toy extinguisher. How many hundred thousand $$$ for that machine and they couldn't spring the price of a couple bottle of good scotch for decent extinguishers? As for why there are not onboard extinguisher systems? $$$ to design, install & maintain. And I'd wager not one in 10 systems would work after 3 years. The other mistake the owner and /or operator made was they didn't face the machine into the wind at the 1st sign of smoke. I'd say a fire on a machine that new was due to some tinkerer not putting something electric, fuel or hydraulic back together properly.
