We sent a guy out once for a bucket of live steam when I was in the Navy. Smart a$$ got us back though...He came back with a bucket of water claiming it was steam when he left but it condensed on the way back... Of course then there were frequent the trips for the new guys to the next ship for keys to the sea chest so we could get the steam blankets out for the boilers, a yard of gig line, trips up the chain of command all the way to the Captain with a chit for an electron analyzer and dozens of others I can't remember right off....One of the best though consisted of sending guys up to the base of the mast with a crank handle telling them to lower the mast so it didn't hit the old Cooper River bridge down in charleston. The looks of sheer terror on the guys faces as the captain screemed up to them to get that mast down...just as we cruised under the bridge looking so much like it was going to hit..were priceless.
