: : I have just purchased a John Deere Model "B" Serial # b89874 and John Deere Mode 60 Serial # 60 26281. Does any one out there have any idea what they are worth in non-running condition and what they might be worth after I completely restore them?

: I am not an expert, but I go to a lot of auctions just to watch tractors sell. While JD 2 cylinders as a group are in demand, neither of these two models are "hot" as JDs go. I haven't seen many restored tractors at auctions, but As, Bs, and 60s in good running condition often sell for as little as $1,000 and rarely over $2,000 in this part of the country (southern Wisconsin).

Dave, I am not an expert either, but I bought a 1952 John Deere G, serial #54797 back in 1984 for $500 and spent the better part of 10 years and $10,000 to restore it. I have displayed it at the John Deere historical site in Grand Detour, Ill. on 2 occasions and also at the grand opening of the new John Deere Commons in Moline, Ill. last fall. I was asked on several occasions if I
would consider selling, at first I said no and then I said make an offer if you are really interested. The least I was offered was $2500 and the most was $6000. The point is don't think you can buy one cheap and spend several thousand dollars and do it because you plan on making a few bucks. There are alot of tractors out there that you can buy from $2500 to $5000 that are already
restored and you don't have hundreds of hours invested in doing the work.
Now to answer your question I believe you should be able to find a John Deere B, depending on what year and condition for $800 to $1200. I feel you should be able to find a John Deere 60 for somewhere between $1200 and $1800. Remember if you are going to restore it the shape of the tin and having all of the parts including fenders is just as important as if it runs.
Good luck SEA
