Got another brain-buster for you guys.
We will be raking a couple hundred acres of hay this summer with an IH 706 Diesel and a Vermeer 8 wheel V rake(4 wheels on each side.) My thought is that that 706 uses a lot of fuel for a very light job. We also have 3 Allis Chalmers CA tractors sitting in the weeds not being used. None of them run, but I think two of them could be brought back fairly easily. The two both have decent tires and hydraulic pumps for rear lifts. The hydraulics would have to be re-plumbed into remotes to fold up the rake. Would the pump handle that? Wouldn't be live, but that's no big deal. I guess my question is, would it be worth it to make one of the CA's pull the rake and sip on gas instead of the 706D? Thanks for any insights.
