what held the end cap, (rod end) in the cylinder? If a snap ring held it in-sometimes a piston, at the end of the stroke hammers the snap ring and causes it to mushroom out the top of the snap ring groove, but in that case it"s hard to get the end cap out. If that"s causing the piston to stick, you may have to push it down some and polish the top end with a rotary grinder. If piston packing is sticking in a groove, you may have to pull it apart. Commercial hydraulic shops have pull tables to pull pistons and rods out.
