There are some that without the Sherman would pass on tractor and not buy because without it for some jobs it is the only way to get the groung speed you need without over reving the engine all the time. I have a 2N that as soon as they became avaible Dad had it installed. Also have a 9N with the Sherman, both are just the overdrive version as the over-under was not yet made when these were installed. In the 3 speed it gave the better speed for the grain drill and corn planter or hay rake. With the rear blade I use 2nd over and idle down. With the 4 speed 8N it is not as critacal to have as with the 3 speed on the 9-2 N tractors as 3rd in the 8N is about the same as 2nd over is in a 3 speed. But with them you will save engine wear and gas if properly used.
