I know this because when my father died his main wish was to deny as much as possible the money that went to the "merchants of death" (his terminology) He considered these merchants to be funeral parlors, undertakers, obituary listings that had to be paid for, makers and sellers of caskets, lawyers, etc. etc.
Well , we did the whole thing for something like $468.00. We did have a bit of a hard time with the crematorium when we refused to buy a urn from them. We had our own Hills Brothers 3 lb coffee can which they didn't appreciate.
Scattered the ashes out back and that was that! I know he would have loved it
