Hey
Sorry for long post.
I'm hoping someone here can help me with a problem I'm having.I'm trying to find a alternator for a 1985 240 Massey Ferguson.Sounds simple but it has turned in to a pain in the well you know.In a nut shell battery went dead did some testing found out that alternator is not charging. So decieded just to by one off internet.
alternator arrives side of box list all tractors it will fit even 240MF.Take alternator out of box wrong part this ALT. has 3 ears to mount to motor
I need one that has two ears. Heres where the fun starts.Talk to man about returning item whice is find but this is the first time this has happend with a alternator not fitting this model tractor.
I call 5 or 6 MF Dealers in my area a few out of state they all find 240MF alternators for this tractor but with three ears.I have gave them the Tractor serial # 560627 they find all the infor. on tractor but when they need the alternator #
whice is a Perkins LR150-191 (12v50a)3 wire plug. thats the end of the road they can't cross ref. this part.Called a few tractor places that rebuilds Alt.I was told that alternator is probly a lucas alteranator stamped w/ Perkins name and that they might be able to rebuild it.Might.Going to put in URL link w/ pictures of alt hope link works.

Can someone tell me why I'm having such problem w/ getting a alternator for a 240MF or some type of part number where I can track down this alternator? So far I've come closer to seeing bigfoot in my back yard then finding the two eared perkins alternator. If anyone has any ideas or answers to this problem please let me know.
Thanks KSSmith

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
