Joe, When ever you have a carburator off to replace or repair clean the sedimet bowl, make sure the screen is in place. Before you hook the fuel line to the carburator turn on the gas and run fuel through the line, catch a pint or less in a clean container. You can pour it back in the tank. This will flush out any particles of dirt that always come loose when you take the line off. This has worked very well for me over the years.
