Believe it or not, but there have been times when mechanics could not just simply BUY everything they needed. Mechanics used to be different kind of people than today, not because of what they worked ON, but because of what damn precious little they had to work WITH. I'm sure you have heard all the old crude tales about replacing worn out bearing inserts with shoe leather or bacon rind? How about patching cracked cylinder blocks with cement? Tom S.
