I was recently in a similar situation. I fellow who is good friends with my Wife's family and knows I like old tractors gave me a Farmall Super M.

Now I didn't feel right just taking it but on the other hand I really couldn't justify spending what it was worth on a tractor at the time. That is if he wasn't giving it to me I really wouldn't have been interested/looking for a SM at that time.

He told me that he would just take some honey in return (I'm a bee keeper), so I countered by saying that as long as I had honey I would keep him stocked.

Now is it a fair deal, I don't know but he seems happy and is getting more then nothing, and I'm happy as I have a rather nice machine that I am at least paying for one way or another.

It is amazing how nice some folks are, I hope I can be in the position to do something similar at some point as well.

In your situation, well I might round that figure off and make sure she's set with venison as long as she wants it. You could always talk to her about the price as well, say you think they very well might be worth more. You might be surprised, she may not want any more, that $4,500 figure came from somewhere...

Standard non-running tractor rules apply as well. I've had a couple of good deals turn into bad ones when I got home as I'm sure as most here have as well.

K

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
