I wouldn't think the tach's have been turned back. Stuff like this shows up occasionally around here (NW Ohio) as well. I think some fellows around here had a fantastic 10 yrs of farming (from about '65-'75) and made alot of money. They bought alot of new equipment, then when s**t hit the fan in the 80's they quit farming everything but the families' 80. They didn't owe anyone money and in the late 80's and early 90's they quit all together and rented the farm out to the neighbor and their machinery just sat in the shed. The tenant farmer would come by a couple times a year, start everything up and maybe used the 4440 to pull their straight truck out of the soft corn stalks one year when harvest got late because it was close. About a year ago a local auctioneer had a sale with a bunch of super low hr JD stuff. A 4020D powershift with like 900 hrs or something, a 7800 or 7810 with like 300, and a 9400 combine, I think, with like 400 eng hrs and like 250 separator hrs. I don't remember what everything brought, but I do remember the 4020 bringing in the 30's. I hope it was bought by a collector. I don't think spending that much on a 30 or 40 year old tractor that you intend to use everyday is very smart. For the same money you could probably get a 5 yr old machine of comparable size with fairly low hrs as well. I don't totally buy into the "old stuff is made better than the new stuff" theory. At least not as far as farm machinery is concerned.
