Yes very likely seal is leaking but I do believe that the clutch bearing has frozen up and generated the heat to fail the sea;. And is putting engine out of balance the engine will run fine with or without internal balancers. Good Luck
: its sounds to me like the front seal is leaking.also the noise could be the rod does this motor have timng gears in it? did it ever make any noise before.check the bat,if its good probally internal the way you say it knocks
