I almost hit a speeding bicyclist that ran a RED LIGHT in the University district of Seattle on Tuesday. If I had not been watching him, and had accelerated normally when my traffic light changed to green, I don't see how I could have avoided hitting the bike. What an idiot!
The bicyclist was not a child, but was probably in his 20's and wearing clothing similar to what bicycle racers wear. I would have loved to have had the chance to chew him out, but he rode through the intersection and was nearly hit by a car going the opposite way that I was. And I had not authority.
I sure hope they don't make similar conduct LEGAL and codified in my state. Bicycle riders are supposed to follow all traffic rules that motorized vehicle drivers are responsible for following as of now. I can sure see the possibility of lots of lawsuits occurring if suddenly the bikes don't have to follow the rules of the road anymore. And lots of hurt or dead bicyclists.
