I have the same exact model. I bought mine used. I couldn't figure out if they were made by Hobart or Hobart bought them afterwards.
Anyway. Here's what I know about mine. This is all hands on experience.
I just blasted a piece of 5/8" plate on Sunday and it did an ok job. Cleaned the slag off the back side of the cut and ground the face and it was ready. I have cut 1/2 steel a couple of times. It leaves a little slag on the back side of the cut and you need to travel slow. Not too bad. A little grinding on the cut if you want it smooth. But, it will not look like a bandsaw cut it.
If you have used a plasma before you know exactly what i am talking about.
3/8" steel and less no problem.
This is all with a pretty beat up torch.
By the book it is rated to sever 3/4" and produce a clean cut at 1/2 or less on steel. I can't remember the specs on other metals.
I will try to post a pic of 1/2" tonight if I remember.
I worried that it wouldn't be big enough, having come from a fab shop where we cut 1 1/2" steel. But for home use, and a home budget I think it would be ok if the price is right.
