Fred, I do not know much about AC tractors however I do own a B. This B has a good engine and has been cared for over the years. It was 6 volt when I got it and I tried many things and spent a fair amount of money trying to make it crank with no luck. The rebuilder that I use for starters/alternators told me that the design of the starter was what caused the same problem you are experiencing. Since then, I have only seen one AC B that would crank on 6 volts and the owner told me that it had the starter substituted with a starter that has four poles instead of the original two poles. Unless this is a show tractor, I would leave it 12 volts and I would put a 12 generator on it if I wanted it to resemble the original. I have converted 3 AC Bs, for neighbors, to 12 volts to correct the starting problem as I was unable to over come the 6 volt starter dragging symptom. If you find a solution please post the fix. Good luck.
