i have always liked te 4040's. at work my boss used to have a 4020 and a 4040. He said the 4020 would outwork the 4040 anyday of the week so he traded the 4040 in. (they have the same engine but the 4020 doesnt have all the extra things to run: extra hydraulics, air conditioning, heat etc)
nonetheless both are decent tractors. The 466 is supposed to be one of the best engines JD made of that era. For that reason i would go for the 4240.
