Worn or dirty points, bad leaking condensers, old coils with leaking insulation, worn impulse, weak spring, & worn cams. Bent shaft, worn bearings, dragging magnetic rotor all = weak magnet needing recharged or replaced if damaged or poles reversed. On FM J & FM X mags I"ve seen new gears from the factory come with the "C" and "A" marks on wrong place. Make sure on those FM mags your dist rotor is in line with the timing tab in the cover when points open and it fires. Read the IHC manual again and make sure the cam hasn"t turned and got off. Points not set correctly to just open when the magnet breaks changing poles it is called E GAP setting. Learn how that works and you"ll be able to get a hot blue spark out of them.
