I've been watching this thread for a while.
I understand the original complaint. I've seen threads where all manner of advice is given but the original question is not answered. Why wouldn't that be irksome to the one asking?
A message board like this is an imperfect forum. It's hard to discern the level of expertise of the person with the question, and those who do try to answer questions run a risk of a) flying right over the heads of those asking or b) insulting them by extending advice that is received as too basic. Either can make for a frustrating exchange on both ends.
But, at that, I see no harm in tossing in advice borne of experience, stuff that isn't in the books.
As for courtesy, followup and thanks are always welcome, and we'd see more of it if folks extended a word of thanks to those who do follow up, and took a moment to say, "You're welcome," to those who express their thanks.
