My 1945 LA has no 4th gear because it came out on steel built during the big war. It will burn a lot more fuel than one with 5th gear. With the Rpm raised to 1600 I can go about 4 to 5 MPH. I once drove it home from my friends house about 15 miles away took around 4 hours stopping in town to fill the 30 gallon tank. got home with about half a tank. Didn't do that again. I have a 48 with 4th gear and someday I hope to add it to my 45. Walt
