I've never tried that with a shop vac, but could see how someone could do that under the circumstances. I have done something similarly dumb though with "Great Stuff" foam while filling a big void in and around cinder blocks. Says right on the can that it can flash fire, or something to those effects, but I never read that warning on the can until after it did it and singed me good. The deal was that I was filling gaps between cinder blocks to insulate them, and lost the filler stem that comes with the cans on one of the cans. Out of curiosity I tried inserting the tip of the can into a crack, pressed it, and it emptied the can in seconds versus minutes, so to speed things up since I had several cans to go in, I did the same to several of the next cans until all of a sudden it flash fired in my face and all around the outer edges of the cinder blocks, but thankfully didn't ignite any of the wood framing of the home. No warning, just WOOSH and I was enveloped in a warm flash. That's when I read one of the cans, and it very clearly says that it can flash...and there was no flame that caused it, just the chemicals hitting and mixing with oxygen/air too rapidly. A fireman friend of mine explained it, using the correct terminology. Just the same, after years of using the stuff, that was a first, and from now on, more careful, and will use the tube/nozzle that slows down the rate, apparently for a purpose.
