The S series 2-53 used in the 435 was a miserable cuss to start in cool weather. Detroit Diesel released numerous updates. Install a block heater anyways and a group 31 battery.2/00 cables and run the chassis return cable direct to the starter mounting stud. Not to the factory sheet metal connection. N series pistons/sleeves. N35 or C35 injectors for stock HP. N45 or C45's are fine if the connecting rods are swapped for those with piston spray cooling. Install new valves and valve seats. DO NOT grind valves and seats in a diesel. It drops the compression by sinking the valves. Update the cam follower and valve springs to the latest HD springs. Update the blower oil seal or risk a run away. Set the governor for 2550rpm fast idle, 2400rpm under load. Good for 55HP pto with C50's, a dry air filter conversion and Deere Oval muffler. Do not use the piece of crap factory or after market round mufflers.
