Subaru 360 was a Fuji domestic Kei class car that got imported to US when Subaru was starting. Jeep dealer I worked for in early 70"s in Chicago area was also a Subaru dealer, had a couple of the little critters show up for service. The Suzuki 4x4 with 2 stroke engine- that was grandfather of current Samurai and Geo Tracker- also in area showed up couple times. The pollution laws and safety laws upgrades that hit VW Beetle got them also- couldn"t be registered for road use, couldn"t import after mid 1970s. If you had a early model grandfathered in for road use could get sneaky on tuning and get about as much power as a VW Beetle- mid 30s hp, less weight meant could win a stoplight drag race with Beetle. Kei class engine size now allowed up to 660cc, still has to be less than about 10 foot-metric equivilant- bumper to bumper. RN
