I've probably studied pre-WWII Germany as much as most, maybe even as much as you. There are essentially NO similarities between 1930s Germany and the USA today. We are in tough economic times, NOT in the grip of a world-wide depression. This country has NOT been devastated by losing a war (and suffering punitive peace accords) only a generation before. We have NOT seen our elected government usurped by power hungry opportunitsts. The ballot box is still the arbiter of public policy here, as shown by the dramatic shifts of the past three elections. There are NO similarities between Hitler and any President we've every had, including this one. And for all those comparisons about "hope, audacity, change" and every other buzz word that's been thrown around, the speaking style of Hitler does not even resemble the oratory of any elected official on this side of the pond in my lifetime. Or yours.
