You'd be MUCH better off using a rotary mower (aka: brush hog) rather than a sickle bar mower for general cleanup and pasture mowing.
Sickle bar mowers have really become a thing of the past. Only really good for cutting hay the "old-fashioned way". They are much higher maintenance and you can't travel very fast with them either.
Not only that, but a rear mounted old sickle bar mower behind a 2940 is kind of odd. That's a LOT of tractor for such a small mower. You could easily run a big batwing mower (like 15ft +) or a 10ft drawbar pull mower, or the like. As far as pricing goes, you just gotta look. Prices for mowers are all over the place. I'd bet you could pick up a decent USED 3pt hitch mounted 6' or 7' or 8' Brush Hog for a reasonable amount, either at a farm auction, eBay, or CL. Remember, patience is a virtue when buying!
