Hello! I have an allis D 17 and it has some sort of knocking in the rear end. Has anyone had this sound or knows what it is and how to fix it?
(quoted from post at 18:20:09 12/03/22) I can only give good advice when I have good and accurate information to work with. The tractors factory hydraulic pump is a piston pump located inside the belly directly underneath the fuel tank. If the two levers to the left of the steering wheel are clear UP, that pump may be pumping all the time. BUT, the poster says it makes the noise if the foot clutch is clear UP or clear DOWN. That hydraulic pump stops when the foot clutch is clear DOWN/DEPRESSED fully. The gear pump on an older D-17 is a lube pump ( for the power director clutch) and normally makes no noise and if it did, it too stops when the foot clutch is fully depressed. If the tractor makes the noise sitting still AND with the foot clutch fully depressed, the only thing turning is the engine !! If this tractor has some sort of "add-on" live hydraulic pump driven by the engine, I would have no idea because there's no information telling me that. EDIT: Doing a little research on this "knocking noise" I find this same poster back on September 14th, 2022 was complaining about the same problem, and probably the same D-17 tractor. He said it was in the rear end then too.
