1 plow diesel

Good afternoon,

Let me preface this by saying I know very little about Allis Chalmer tractors.

Did AC make a 1 plow tractor similar to the B in a diesel? I am considering buying a tractor to join the local club but dont care to deal with
the magneto and carburetor of a gas engine.

TIA

The British-built Allis Chalmers model EB (English B) offered a diesel option which was a Perkins P3-144 diesel engine. Very rare now. Notoriously hard starting.

I would rather have two or three American built model "B" gasoline tractors over ONE diesel "B". Convert the engine to battery ignition with electronic guts and a freshly rebuilt carb with an in-line fuel filter after the sediment bowl. I've had my WD-45 tractor ride/plowing day tractor 10 full years without one hiccup of ignition or fuel system. Tractor gets 50+ hrs a year on it.

While probably a two plow tractor there was the ED40. Also rare, only around 5000 made in England in the early 60s, and only maybe 450-5000 imported into the U.S. they had a Standard Ricardo English diesel engine that was known to be hard to start engine. There was a problem with the hydraulic system that required limit chains on the lift arms to prevent the internal hydraulic cylinder from over extending and possibly cracking the hydraulic housing. However they were a otherwise a good tractor of 40 hp., had a 4 sp transmission with a two speed auxiliary transmission. Styled like the D series tractors.
