Allis 175 transmission / hydraulics

Have a 175 diesel. I have never seen any indications of a leak on either hydraulic or transmission oil but they disappear on me repeatedly.

It has been sitting in the same spot for 2-3 months and nothing is under it. BUT both are not registering. I ve used off brand hy-Tran oil in them.

I m beyond puzzled. I ve watched for leaks no idea where this stuff ends up.

Am I losing my mind? Or has anyone else had this issue?

Tractor is only sporadically used due to having other tractors and it not raining last year to shred.

Probably haven’t put 15 hours on it in 2 yearsbut that will be changing shortly. Also it has jumped out of gear on me a couple times. :( So I m probably gonna have to open it up at sometime in the near future.

Sitting in the seat, there is a dipstick to the right of the gearshift rubber boot. This is for the transmission/differential. To the left and a little forward of the gearshift rubber boot is a screw-in dipstick and it is for the hydraulic system. Same oil can be used in both. Whenever checking these oil levels, the tractor must be sitting LEVEL front to back and side to side. Best checked after sitting overnite. Whenever checking the oil levels, the dipstick must be inserted as straight in and back out as possible so you aren't dragging it against the side of the hole. The oil level must show ON BOTH SIDES of the dipstick !!!! This is important !! You can't have oil on one side of the dipstick and not the other. The oil isn't evaporating. You either don't have it full to begin with OR you have a loader on it or other hydraulic cylinders that are leaking when you use the tractor. The power steering cylinder on the tie rod could be leaking when being used and it would always be wet on the rod end of the barrel on the bottom. The PTO shaft seal can leak and the drawbar will be damp underneath it. There is no physical or mechanical connection to why BOTH compartments would be losing oil at the same time. If they are, you have TWO leaks or the two were never full to begin with.

I can now see a small leak under it.

I really don t personally use this tractor much since we bought it, mainly it s the kids.

I think the clutch is also going outmay the 2 speed one as well.

Alsocan t figure out why the right (sitting down) side of the axel housing is getting hot. And I m not talking the axle itself. The larger box that I assume is still the transmission? The other side is cool to the touch??

The larger box ?? Like inside the rear wheel area ?? which is the final drive and it hold ONE QUART of 90 wt oil. If it's getting hot it must be out of oil and have a bearing issue.

Under the seat the main 'T' of the drive, not the round axel tube that bolts on to it.

Is the 90wt added to each side separate? Where is the add?

Directly under where the seat suspension bolts on to the housing is the differential area. It shares oil with the transmission. To the immediate left or right of this is each brake assembly. They are covered with the tin dust cover. Pulling a plow on a spring day this area will get pretty darn warm. Driving it down the road on a summer day in road gear it will get warm, but not hot. Final drives each take 1 quart of oil. Get yourself an owners manual.
