48 vac w/master frame hitch

A few weeks ago I bought a new project. I got a 48 vac with the master frame hitch and a 2 bottom plow. The tractor didn't run but was complete and the motor was free so I figured it wouldn't be to difficult to get back running. After replacing all the ignition electrical system and cleaning out the fuel system I was able to get it running. Since then it have continued to work on it, getting it in great running shape. Now I am looking at taking care of a few things that either don't work or don't work well. The first thing I need to work on is the clutch. It disengages and engages right near the start of the pedal travel. It also hangs up when the tractor is moving, I almost backed into my brand new car. What would cause the clutch to not disengage when in gear?
The next item is the hydraulic pump. When I got the tractor the pump housing was completely empty. I have never heard any noise coming from the pump and w I don't get anything when I pull the lever either direction. I
I'm hoping that I would just need to bleed the system, but I would think that I would still hear something coming from the pump. Does anyone have a clear diagram of the pump that they could post?
Thanks
Steven

Steven, welcome to the Case Forum, it's great to have new members contribute to the discussions. Don't know why your questions haven't been responded to, sometimes I think these guys take a nap. I'm not a VAC expert but your problems don't sound serious. Empty cavities, leaky gaskets and seals, and stuck control valves are the usual fare for these old tractors. Best advice I can give is for you to get a JI Case service manual and a parts manual. These will answer a lot of questions and in the end save you money. I believe these tractors can leak hydraulic oil from the torque tube backward via a worn seal into the rear. If your hydraulic oil is up to mark and you get no response when pulling the lever, make sure the spool/plunger is being moved, if not use a wooden handle to tap it loose. Remember cast parts break easily. Pumps are usually quiet unless they are starving for oil.
Your clutch may require splitting and checking things out. Sounds like a pressure plate to throw out bearing issue.

Thanks for the reply, I have the two plunger style pump that runs off of the belt pulley. I have to remove the belt pulley this week and drop the pump mech to see if something inside is rusted up/hung up or maybe It's stubborn and just doesn't want to prime. From what I was able to see with the unit still on the tractor everything seems to move, I just don't seem to move fluid. I'm hoping that once I get the belt pulley and pump off I can see something obvious. The clutch seems to be working it's self out, I'm guessing that the spline may have been rusted a bit after who knows how many years of sitting outside and not moving.

I had one tractor that had sat in a barn for ten years. Bought it, drove it around home, clutch was weird, and started leaking oil from bell housing. When I separated it I found what was left of the largest mangle of mouse nest I'd ever seen coated with oil. Oil was from main shaft and hydraulic pump drive seals giving out.
