New to Tractors - need help with 1960 Case 440 H

I bought a 440H tractor with loader and backhoe, it's rough, runs but barely...

The throttle lever under the steering wheel, or the pedal dont seem to be working right not sure if linkage is damaged or??. I havent figured out how to control the throttle except with the choke (push-pull cable on dash)... I can get it to run unless there is a load then it dies. I'm confused with how it operates.

Same with the transmission, There are 2 levers, the one on the left seems to be Forward, Reverse and Neutral... the right a 4 speed gearbox But Im confused as I think the H in the 440 H means it had a 12 speed gear box, so wondering if there is some kind of OD/Doubler somewhere I haven't figured out...

Is Jensales a good site for getting manuals to learn how to operate / repair it, or are there better resources??

Yesterday's Tractors, which provides this web site, sells manuals and parts, you might consider purchasing from them.

If you can find used original manuals, they are generally better than reprints, which most stores sell.

The 440H is simply the utility (industrial) model in the 430 tractor series. The letter H (or L) indicates non-standard gearing (Low or high speed) as opposed to a standard transmission in the 430 series.

The dual speed shuttle provides 8 speeds forward and eight speeds in reverse for faster working cycles when using the FEL since reverse speeds are 25% faster than forward in any gear. That makes them excellent loader tractors as it can push in relatively slow, shift shuttle to reverse and back out fast. This is a pic of a typical of dual range setup, does your tractor match that?

If the throttle problem includes both the hand and foot throttle check and clean/lube the bracket that the throttle rod runs through on the right side of the engine block, check the spring connecting the governor arm, move the governor arm free movement back and forth.

The choke statement indicates the carburetor needs disassembly, a thorough cleaning and a kit installed. Check the inside of the gas tank and the sediment bowl for debris.

Hello gilly welcome to YT! To elaborate a bit on what
Joe said about your throttle and carb problem I will
add this. If this tractor has sat around much it is
common for the fuel system to get crud, debris and old
gas that has gotten gummy. Along with cleaning and
fixing the carb that fuel supply needs checked. If the
carb has what appears to be a plug on the bottom get
a clean jar. Pull the plug and see what comes out. It
should also continue to flow steady and not slow down
to drips. The reason for using the jar is so you can look
at the fuel that drained out after it settles a bit. What
ever crud you see in the jar is also in the carb, should
be squeaky clean for everything to work right. Just an
added tip I am not sure if those Cases had them but
many brands have a fine screen in the fitting that the
fuel line connects to. The fitting has to be removed
from the carburetor to check it for being clean. The
sediment bowl Joe mentioned is the clear glass bowl
below the gas tank by the shut off. Originally it would
have had a screen in the top of it that screens the fuel
before it can go in the line to the carb.
