JD 430 dozer questions

I've been looking at a JD 430 dozer and would like y'alls opinion on the machine.
Are they decent machine although not a powerhouse? It is in decent restored working condition.
Prone to particular problems?
Hard to find parts? Where at?
Where could I find a PTO kit to install?
Where could I find a PTO winch to install?
Is it properly called a 430-C for the crawler version?
How much does it weigh?

Thanks for your input, Michael

Yes 430C is the proper designation for a 430 crawler. I consider them a decent little crawler. I had one with a wet clutch reverser, #62 blade, and Gearmatic winch. It would do a good bit of work, used properly.

If undercarriage parts are needed some searching may be required to find good used components. If a complete undercarriage job is needed, the common fix is to convert them to JD 350 crawler undercarriage components.

Most of the engine and driveline components (until you get to steering clutches and final drives) are shared with the 420 and 430 wheel tractors.

If it has a wet clutch reverser (shift lever on the left side of the dash cowl), parts are scarce. That is not a hydraulicly operated wet clutch unit, the foot clutch is to be used when shifting the reverser and it is not to be run in reverse when the transmission is in reverse.

PTO was an option but may not be easily found.

Gearmatic 8A was a winch commonly used on them.

Lavoy, at jdcrawlers.com, is a good source of parts and information. He specializes in that vintage of JD crawlers, and earlier ones.
