New to me 1955 Oliver no fuel to the injection pump

Long story short, tractor has been sitting. Drained the fuel tank,
cleaned the shut off fitting on bottom of tank. Blew air through
the line to filter. New glass type fuel filter, blew air through the
line to injection pump. All good and clean. Added 5 gallons of
fuel and gravity will now flow it through the filter. Take filter off
and fuel runs good on the ground, why would this tractor not
have a lift pump? Looks blocked off from the factory. Surely I
dont need to add more fuel? I have the tank cap off so I know
its not a vent issue. Any other ideas? Tractor runs great on a
separate tank of fuel. New injection pump and injectors. Add
more fuel to the tank is easy but surely you would think the
tractor should run until the tank is empty. Should I put a lift
pump on this tractor? If so does anyone have the factory 310
fuel lines from the filter to the lift pump? Nice original 3,300
hour tractor would hate to rig up some rubber hoses. Let me
know your thoughts! Thanks

It might help if you tell what 1955 Oliver you are working on. Loader, backhoe, etc.

Are you trying to say fuel won't flow through the filter? Adding another 5 gallons to the tank may help. You say you have the tank cap off so it is not a vent problem. You do not say you have the bleeder open on the fuel filter, that needs to be open. Gravity bleeding can take a while, the more fuel in the tank can get quicker bleeding results. If the tank is above the injection pump a lift pump is not always required.

Yes its a 1974 1955 wheel tractor. Yes had the bleeder open,
definitely not enough fuel in the tank I guess. Just seems odd to
me that its designed this way.

You might try posting about this down below on the Oliver, Cletrac, Coop and Cockshutt Forum for a wheel tractor. There might be someone there with insight, that doesn't look at this forum.

how much fuel u talking about left in tank? sometime they add an extension to the stand pipe on dirty tanks.

Yeah I thought of that also. I completely drained the tank and removed/ cleaned the brass shut off fitting. It did have a small 1 inch tall pipe off the shut off. I wouldnt think 1 inch above the very bottom would have much effect.

my 1755 is the same way , no lift pump. i just spent all afternoon getting the tank ready to lift out as it is leaking at the outlet seam. man what i job just to get a tank out. plus a cab. the tank is a bit higher than the pump, but the filter is higher than the bottom of the tank.

The lift pump was eliminated as an update when that style filter is used. Filter should be below the fuel tank. Does this have a cab with fender fuel tanks? Does it fender fuel tanks? You say the glass filter is new, just the filter or was the housing replaced as well? They have to be plumbed right or they won't work, I learned that the hard way. Multiple ports on them, and there is a TOP to the filter housing as well. I have a late 74 1955 as well, just redid everything on it. On mine, the top port facing rearward is the inlet. The outlet to the pump is the forward facing lower port.
Just because fuel will run on the ground with the filter off dosent mean it will work if tge ports are not right. Try filling filter with line to pump off first. 5 gallons is not much fuel in that tank.

Yeah I guess 5 gallons just isnt enough, seems odd to me. You would think an empty tank would be no fuel. Not 5 gallons. Ill double check that filter!

Nice looking tractor. The one I have is 251609, bult August 29, 1974. I took the cab off it, not using it for anything anyway. Fuel lines are more than likely not available anymore. You can make them up with the right size steel brake line though and a tubing bender, use the old as a pattern, at least that's what I did anyway.
Fuel from the cab tanks is siphoned into the main tank, same tank port as is the return line from the injection pump/injectors. Your main tank would have a nonvented cap on it now, cab tanks have vented caps, just an FYI. There is a water drain valve on the bottom of the main tank, and if you can't get fuel to run out of that, it generally won't flow through the feed line, another lesson learned the hard way. I have the manuals for these, so if you need something answered I can generally snip some pages and post as a picture. I think there a pretty nice tractor, but I hate the fact it seems to take forever for that oil preasure to climb when you first start them, drives me nuts to wait and watch. Here's a pic of mine, still needs the fender lights, and once it's warm enough I'll get-ter done

If it's the White factory cab, they can be lifted up in front fairly easy. One bolt each side and then the small floor board around the gear shift and they tilt back. Just have watch the hydraulic controls, as the console will get into them. Not much weight, two guys can tip pretty easy.

Its a 72 model. I just removed the small panels from around the front of cab. Then able to remove the hood piece over the guages to get at the rear tank strap. Its a new to me tractor also. Been sitting a long time. I did have it running. Lots to do yet. Got to make sure its worth rear tires as they are all flat and rotten.

Thanks for the info on the fender tanks. I never did figure out how they worked until now! And yeah I have great fuel out the water drain. Ill keep messing with it !

That is good to know! I think that will be my next move, get that main tank out and clean it really good! I didnt know that about the cabs being that easy so that is also good information. Thanks again
