1969 CASE 450 WITH BACKHOE ATTCHMNT BROKEN VALVE CONTRLS

Good morning to all the Case experts. I humbly ask your help. The story goes like this......Took off backhoe attachment to work on tractor. Backhoe falls over onto Control levers, Control levers break at the linkage attached to the top of the valve body.... Where can i find replacement linkages....and any tips on replacing them.

I would say you first need to identify what backhoe it is (brand and model), then consult a parts book to get the part numbers of the broken pieces. You can use those numbers to check to see if the parts are available new from the dealer, check salvage yards, search eBay, and the internet. Posting some pictures of the backhoe and the broken parts might help get some better responses than this one. Guessing what hoe you have and exactly what is broken might get the right info, then again results could be totally wrong.

I believe it is a case hoe, but I cant say for sure. It will be a few days before I can verify all the above info, so stay tuned!!

(quoted from post at 21:46:52 03/23/23) I did not take any measurements, but do these appear to be the same as yours?

Your backhoe is a model 33. Here is a link to the CASE online parts book for the 33 backhoe used on the 310G and 450.

The levers with broken ends could be repaired fairly easily.

Your biggest problem is the valve spools with broken ends. Due to the close tolerances between the spool and valve body those entire valve sections (called elements in the parts book), need to be replaced. The spools are not sold as separate parts. You might find a salvage yard that will sell you the elements you need (you have to ID the function as they can be different even if they look the same), it is doubtful they will sell just spools or even just a section or two from a complete good control valve bank.

You can try pulling a spool out and getting the ears welded back on. I would try TIG if I was going to try that. It needs to be done slowly as to not heat the spool body that runs in the valve body. The spool needs to go back in the same valve body, in the same orientation, it was before you disassembled it. Just my thoughts, others may have different thoughts.

Noted.....When I saw those my stomach did a flip flop because it looked like a big problem. All for the lack of a stronger 2$ 2x4. What a nightmare. I really like my 450, and especially the backhoe, it has come in handy countless times on the farm and now this!! So I just looked at CNHI and those rods are "Unavailable".....Any suggestions?

As I posted before the spools are shown in the parts book with the note "not sold as separate parts". You have to purchase the complete element, or section, for each function to replace the one in your valve bank. If the part numbers match, purchase the entire control valve from Keith Molden. Then the good sections of your old one can be spare parts. You fellows can make connection (I suggest starting with emailing him (email shows as open in both views, not posting those details here) and use the parts books to check the complete valve bank numbers.

I reached out to Mr Kieth earlier via email. I believe his parts were off a 580B. Is there a possibility that they will fit my old case? Or possibly the whole valve assembly?

Yes, there is a likely possibility. I believe at least some of the 580Bs used a model 33 backhoe. That is where the parts books (I gave you a link to yours) come into play, you guys can compare the parts lists for your backhoe and his backhoe.

Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge. Mentoring is a disappearing tradition, and I am grateful for your time.

Hello Mr Keith I sent an message originally via your YT email but did not send my return email address. I have since remedied that am hoping to hear from you.
Best Regards
Dan Daniel

It looks like theres plenty of room to spin the clevis on the
other end out. Could you heat the end an inch farther beat it
flat and drill a hole? Ive made braces like that on truck
bumpers. Essentially free except some gas and your time

The top of the valve is where the problem is. In the picture you can see the that 2 of the valves have the "receiver" end (where the linkage attaches) have broken. If it where only the linkage I would be in much better shape, but the when the valve broke, it was a head shot. Im still looking for valves, or a whole valve body. If you know of any please drop me a line. Also, thank you for taking an interest and trying to help, it is appreciated.
