John Deere 1010 Dozer track tensioner

I have a JD 1010 dozer with hydraulic track tensioner.
Track came off the dozer due to a clamp on idler wheel breaking off. Got that repaired and then Removed the jam nut and set screw completely from the track tensioner. Should only have loosen it.
So the idler wheel was pushed in and grease came out the hole where the set screw were removed on the track tensioner. After getting the track back on and replacing the set screw and adding grease the track will not tighten.
After doing some searching online I read that there is a ball bearing that is suppose to be under the set screw to seal it.
I looked in the manual but no mention of the ball bearing.
So is there a ball bearing under the set screw? What size is it?
Can I just find old ball bearing of right size from an old bearing and put in there?
Called John Deere but the parts man said he would call me back and did not.

You are not the first and won't be the last person to lose the check ball by removing the set screw completely. The ball is buried in the grease and gets thrown away with the grease.

405R was the original part number which has been replaced by R42849. It is a 3/8-inch diameter steel ball. Yes, a bearing ball of that diameter can replace it, or some hardware stores have assorted steel balls in the hardware section pull drawers.
