480C Construction King

Gentlemen,

Have a 480C with the hydraulic box blade. All functions work on the blade (rippers, tilt, & top link) except the lift. it would only raise about 2 inches and no more. I switched the hydraulic hoses from the lift cylinder to the top link cylinder control valve. The top link works as it should, but the lift cylinder would only lift again about 2 inches. So I assumed the lift cylinder needs to be rebuilt. $425.00 later, installed the cylinder, worked perfectly without the blade (no load). Attached the blade would not pick up more than 2 inches. The loader works like it should. Picks up the front end with no problems. So I don't believe it's the hydraulic pump. What could be the cause of the lift cylinder under load (blade attached) not being able to raise? What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Get you a 3000 psi. Gauge. Put it on the hose and see what you have. Your oxygen gauge will work and a grease gun hose and a few reducers. Should have 2000 psi. My 480E has 2800.

If you use an oxygen gauge from a torch set with oil, never use it on oxygen again! Oxygen, especially high pressure, and hydrocarbons can lead to violent explosions and fire. Basic welding safety.

First of all we need to figure out what we are talking about,Lift for box blade. On a 480C you would most likely have a MOD hitch which has it's own 4 spool valve. Those valves have a unique flow pattern. A service manual on the hitch attachment might help. You could try lifting while you are stroking one of the other valves. If I remember correctly, the oil doesn't flow through the entire bank of valves until a spool in the end section moves and sends the oil down the line.
