I've taking this block and had sleeves put in they checked the line bore said it was good polished the crank but when I go to Tighten number three with the thrust bearing it locks down with no end play. I'm guessing I've got a bad set of bearings it is standard. Anybody know what's going on?

Going by what you are saying that it doesn't lock up till you tighten the cap up it seems that the bearing might be undersize, leave it a bit loose and see if you have end float when you can turn the shaft, if you have, it would suggest the trust is OK, there are several sizes of undersize bearings for that engine starting off at two thou to thirty, check the bearings as it should be marked on them if standard or undersize.

Thanks the crank is standard and so is the
bearings. After further research there
seems to be two different style bearings
for this engine. I don't think the
diameter is different just the oil holes.
I do have 7,000 in play with just the
bottom bearing in and after making it
appears the thrust bearing is 2 thousands
bigger than the crank.

Okay I ended up trying my old crank and
it's doing the same thing so obviously I
have a bearing issue it looks like Ford
sells two different types of bearings for
this engine a blue and a red whatever that
means. If anyone knows chime in please

Which engine does it have, there was two versions of the 268 during that time
Does the oil filter stick straight out from the block or does it go on an adapter and point down
Parts calls for different bearings between the two engines

Dip stick points straight up. This is
supposed to be a 95 model engine do you
know where I can decode the engine code?

I got in touch with Ford today I might as well have been talking to Joe B LOL. But anyway I found out the red bearings are to be used if you're using a remanufactured crank and rods.
The blue bearings are used if you have a original crank and rods.
But they could not tell me the difference.
Geez there should not be a difference in circumference or the thickness of the thrust bearing.. Why would Ford do such a thing?

Okay I got some new main bearings in today the end play is good the crank turns good and it plastic gauges out good.
Now the rod bearings are wrong they're way too wide and Ford has four different sets yellow red blue and purple. I have never had this much trouble building the an engine in my entire life.
