I saw a somewhat recent posting regarding the rebuilding of one of these units and I thought about posting on that thread but I decided to start a new one.
I have one of these units in a Bucyrus Erie (HY-Dynamic) 250C 12.5 ton RT Crane divorse mounted behind a 4-53 D.D. I have no manuals or info on this crane ( I have had a hard time even finding much of anything on this series crane)and I want to service the transmission along with everything else. I have found a in-line remote filter which I have ordered. I noticed the fluid is a clear/amber color. My questions are 1) what type of fluid should I use?(I read on a somewhere it takes C-4 or 15-40 diesel engine oil) 2) are there any other internal filters or strainers I should service? 3) and lastly I can not find any dipsticks or obvious way to check the fluid level. This is my big problem/question. I guess maybe it would help out if I knew the approx fluid capacity. Thanks alot. Oh lastly what is a common make/model of equipment that uses this trans so I can find info on the trans in case I need more info.
