420C with bad steering clutches or 420C with bad pinsbushin

I'm going to look at a couple of 420C's this weekend and I basically have the choice of two.

1st one for 1800.00 has one bad steering clutch and can not be driven, runs good though and has good tracks with 6 way manual blade

2nd one for 2850.00 runs and drives but the pins and bushings are wore off of it. 4 way manual blade

Which one is the lesser of the two evils? I'll be taking measurements of the track\roller\rail wear to confirm condition.

You better bought the 2 machines because it will cust you more in pieces for repair and you will have some extra parts

I've got to agree with Gemdozer, your best bet would be to buy both. Basically the cost to replace the tracks on the one machine is more than likely going to be more than $1800 just for new rails and new bolts to put your pads back on them. On the other hand if you go into the rear on the other one to do one steering clutch you ought to do both while there since it stands to reason one worn out typically means the other is not that far behind (usually one side will wear more than the other due to the way it's operated, but both will also wear together) . Between parts and labor you could easily get into the $2800 range for the repair with the cost of new discs, etc to repair the clutches.

Basically, buy both and you'll come out alot better off in the short term, cost wise, for the repairs you know you need, and in the long run for any other parts you find you need after you start running the one you decide to repair.

Good luck.

He is "asking" $4,650 for both. Offer $4,000 cash for both and go from there.
You can always part one out and get some of your money back after you use the parts that you may need.
