I have a 64 cub, 6 volt positive ground. Power to starter and voltage reg with key off. with key on it still has power to starter and vr but no electric to
coil or distributor. no lights either. I have pulled battery ground and cleaned until shiny. fuse is good. any suggestions as to where i go next would be
apreciated.

The wire from the Ammeter is disconnected, broken, or has a bad terminal. the voltage to the VR means the Ammeter is getting power to both sides. If no Ammeter, the wire from the Starter switch to the Light switch, and the key switch has the issue. Jim

Both the starter and the VR ALWAYS have power as long as the battery is connected.

Your main battery connections are not the problem.

Both the ignition switch and lights get their power from the L(oad) terminal on the VR. Since both are out that and the wire running back to the instrument panel from the L terminal are where you should start looking.

Rather than chase wire issues, I just cut all the old off and rewire..... No telling what hack work has been done over the years.

owever, in this case the problem is likely to be exactly as BarnyardEngineering said, the single wire from the regulator "L" terminal to the ignition switch. The wire may be broken, but more likely a bad connection at either end. Rewiring the whole thing is a lot more work than cleaning up two connections (that would need to be cleaned up anyway as part of rewiring it).

Check for Voltage on both terminals of the fuse
holder with the fuse installed. The fuse might
be good, but may not make good contact in the
fuse holder.

You say it has power to the VR........I take you at your word.......Typically power to the BAT terminal on a VR or a Cutout Relay comes from the LOAD (NOT battery) side of the ammeter so that (depending ow how things are wired) must be okay.

Typically power to ignition and lights comes from EITHER the LOAD terminal on 4 terminal VR's orrrrrrrrr the LOAD side of the ammeter on 3 terminal VR's or relays.......SOOOOOOOOOOOO check the wiring from LOAD side of the ammeter or LOAD terminal if its a 4 terminal VR to the lights and any in line switches and/or fuses

still working on this. I found that there is power to one side of ignition switch but none to the other when switch pulled. i am assuming that the switch is bad????

I agree with Professor Jim, sure sounds like a reasonable assumption to me also if all else is okay that is !!!
