Re: understanding the Torque Amplifier and Engine Clutch on

When I purchased my 300u it was my first old
tractor. I knew nothing about the TA or it's
usage. I quickly learned that the tractor did
not like to shift with the the ta handle was
forward so I always kept it pulled back and
assumed that I was operating with ta off.
I've since learned that actually my ta is
engaged when the handle is pulled back.
That said it does what it is supposedd to, it
slows the tractor down when pulled backwards
no slipping at all. I keep it engaged most of
the time so I can freely shift gears without
grinding or forcing. How can I correct this?

Just guessing (and so will everyone else) your clutch needs adjustment. I was having shifting/clutch issues on my 350 Farmall - but most of mine where when the TA was pulled back. The clutch became very jerky when starting out from a stop with the TA engaged - that's how I get moving in 5th gear with a load. I adjusted the clutch according to the manual and everything went back to normal.
