Neway Valve seat cutters

So I have been working on a head for a 240 with a C123 engine and kind of stalled over a stupid decision. The valve sizes are 1.25 and 1.5. I am looking to buy a dual angle Neway valve seat cutter. My question is whether I can buy one seat cutter to do both valve sizes since that are adjustable? Or is it just better to buy one for each size?

Thank You!

Get the dual angle if you can. It will stretch out to do bigger seats than 1.5 if you have to. Plus you may need the second angle to change the height of the seat if necessary.

On March,14,2023, I posted in Tools on YT,the topic of a NEWAY VALVE SEAT CUTTER
Everyone who answered (8 people with hands on experience)had only POSITIVE experience with NEWAY VALVE SEAT CUTTERS.
Below is the information I received back from NEWAY.

My question was direct to the fact I am going to CUT new seats in my McCormick W9 Gasoline engine Tractor.....HARDENED VALVE SEATS SHALL NOT be used.

Hi Bob.
Thanks for contacting us. The good news is that you will only need one diameter of cutters to do both the intake and the exhaust. Heres what you need:

CU660 Valve seat cutter, 2 dia, 30 deg. x 45 deg.

http://newaymfg.com/parts/CU660

CU657 Valve seat cutter, 2 dia, 60 deg.

In order to set you up with solid pilots I will need more detail. Its the guide bore size were after, but if you can give me an accurate valve stem size I will know what the clearance should be. A micrometer reading would be better than calipers if possible. The expanding pilot is not a bad option as well. In this case just knowing that its a nominal 13/32 guide is enough. If we go with solid pilots you will have at least two solids, so, for example:

150-13/32 Expandable pilot

Or

140-13/32-STD Solid pilot, .406

140-13/32-1 Solid pilot, .405

http://newaymfg.com/parts/PF140-13_32-Std

And the rest:

TW505 T-wrench

Or

TWEZ Easy Turn Wrench

You should be fine with the standard T-wrench.

KACC246 Accessories kit

CA160 Case $ 16.50

No need to shy away from hardened seats should you encounter them, the cutters are carbide... thats what theyre made for. Any small engine with aluminum block has hardened seats. And theyre not all that hard. If you can nick the seat with a file, you can cut it with your Neway. Just dont let it slide down the pilot and bounce on the seat. Carbide is very hard; you could chip the fine knife finish of the cutter.
