IH 574 Front Axle

I have an IH 574 with the swept back front axle and would like to switch to the straight for better balance with loader. Has anyone tried this? And do I need to swap the entire axle or can I use my outer parts and just swap the center frame.

I have not tried that. I have heard the front casting needs to be changed to make that work. the angle of the axle is such a straight axle would hit the front opening of the casting. I also don't know if the pins are the same diameter. We have had our 574v since new in about 1972. The front axle is the weak part of the tractor for loader work because of the bolts holding the knees into the center section. Any more we just try to keep bolts in the holes. The design is not very good with the bolts being vertical holding all the weight of the front end on just 2 3/4 bolts like they do. If you could see your way to an 84 or so model the straight axle is bolted front to back with the knee fitting tighter in the center section and the weight being spread over the inner tube and knee rather than on just 2 bolts. I would look at the CNH parts book and see if the part numbers are the same with just updates to them or completely different especially that front casting. Also if it would bolt on if you did change it. I was looking at the same thing from the neighbors 84 series model to put on our 574 and never got very far with it. Seemed that front casting was the hang up and the if his would bolt to our engine front like our is. Thos have a different engine the 246 or some such.
