I am looking to rebuild a 560 tractor that I purchased over the summer. It has zero sentimental value I use it daily on the farm and just simply wanted to tune it up.
I normally order my parts from Stiener, but I got a couple answers on this forum on a Farmall M we redid last winter, and I figured I should repay the debt.

I am ordering the service and parts manual, some Lucas lube, the piston kit and the valve kit.
few questions, my machine shop recommends buying an oversized sleave. Does anyone know if the kits are oversized? is there a way to tell what bearings I need before tearing it apart. I am trying to order parts but won't have it apart until dec 25th - jan 1st and I really want to be able to return things that I cant use.

Get it apart then inspect and decide then what you need. IF the crank is needed to be ground then let them order the bearings to fit the grind along with valves, seats and guides. Will not necessarily be cheaper but will more likely to be the right fitting parts for that particular engine. since cranks don't wear the same nor cylinders. Need to check Ring end gap so they don't hit and bulge on the piston when running and up to temperature and not excessive gap from to short. All done with feeler gauges and mics. Oil clearance on the rod and main bearings and wear to the cam shaft lobes for valve lift and degrees open.

Keep in mind here on your sleeves first we need to know like said below GAS or diesel , neither one is a hand slip fit , next most of the rebuild kits only come in the one size and I H was never that great on holding bore size and thus they had a A B bore class and a C D bore class and they will not all fit ,the A B will drop in a C D bore and a C D will NOT fit a A B bore . engine rebuild is NOT a stuff and go it is a set down and BUILD with lost of parts fitting and micing of parts and the hole your going to put those part in . If yo get sleeve fit wrong they will snap off the lip and get sucked down around the crank and NO sleeve loc tight is NOT the answer proper fit is . Then ya really need to fit each piston to the HOLE as once again they are NOT all the same and neither are the holes.

there was a tv show called i dream of jeannie , but i cant predict a whole lot with a nose wiggle. i have been tearing engines down for a lot of years and first is teardown then inspect then make your want list. GAS OR DIESEL ENGINE ? no sleeves are not oversize, standard bore. tear it apart then post pic's if not sure on stuff. the head is machine shop work so there is no worry to you there , they locate and buy what they need for it. pull head of then haul it in . rebuild a 560 tractor... how far ? everynut and bolt or the bare minimum, big difference and money. not enough info here.

I can call them. Thought maybe "they" monitored these forums and we could all learn from our questions.

I have never done this. Couple guys I know tell me I can do it. Watch some you tube, pay attention and follow directions. They both said they remember when they did there first one. My uncle is an old IH mechanic who said he can help me when I get stumped and check it over when I am done.

We restored an M and tore everything down except the engine clock as it had good compression. Going to have a project for
Christmas break with my son.

Sorry for the foolish questions just trying to learn as I go.

See that phone number at the top of the page, they will
hopefully have your answers.

Edit to add: You must have not done many overhauls or
you would know that there is no way to tell bearing size
without disassembling. This post was edited by used red MN on 11/20/2023 at 01:30 pm.
