Busted something? Hitch won't stay up after straining it.

OK - my fault. Took the fella's word helping me tow my TEA20 on a trailer behind his truck that he had unfastened all the chains prior to me backing it down the ramps.

Well, he forgot one -- the one wrapped around the seven foot blade on the back. I noticed of course immediately upon lifting the blade (or trying to lift it).

The blade came up maybe five inches, ran out of chain, then the squealing began.

I set her down again immediately and unfastened the chain. It goes up ok without noise but now the hitch can't hold the blade up without the pump engaged. Previously I could turn the tractor off and it would take a good fifteen minutes to lose pressure. Now it drops to the ground in under a minute.

Any thoughts on what might be damaged and how to check it for sure?

John(UK) and others have given great info on this problem and you probably can find it in the archives. One of them will probably weigh in with some comments. Meanwhile, you can pull the round port on the right side and peer into the pump area (don't put your hand in there while tractor is running) and see if you have swirling fluid that might indicate a leak. (Don't pull the top cover.) Note the location of the leak and maybe by then one of the other guys will respond. My first thought is maybe the relief valve which is on the bottom of the pump and is accessible with difficulty without draining the fluid might be the problem. It is about $30 from an AGCO dealer. If you drain the fluid, the relief valve is not so difficult, although still awkward to replace. Look at your manual.

Thanks phil -- I've seen discussions on pump wear but I don't recall reading about anything other than failure due to age and general use. I thought maybe downright abuse as in this case might blow out something else entirely back there.

I'll have a poke around the site as well as check out that relief valve. John has certainly come to the rescue many times I know!

Acceptable leakdown with an implement on the three point without the pump running is 15 minutes. Does your"s drop faster than that?

That's a good benchmark to know Jerry -- thanks. Before this little episode it would indeed meet that time of 15 minutes easily. Now it drops inside of a minute.

sounds like the relief valve is leaking by. Simply overloading the lift should not "break" anything. That is the purpose for the relief. Pull the side cover and check out what's going-on like the other guys suggest. May just have crud stuck in the relief valve, repeating your episode my pass the crud and the lift work fine again.

I notice George agrees with me that it could be the relief valve. If you want to pull it, it takes an 11/16 stubby wrench to get at it. The valve looks kinda like a spark plug and is screwed in fore and aft near the bottom of the pump.
