3 point won't go down on my TO-30

Where do I start to trouble shoot the problem when the 3 point will not go down no matter where I move the control lever? The 3 point control lever moves freely but does nothing. The only way to lower the 3 point is to disengage the PTO and wait and eventually after 10 minuites or so the 3 point will go down. Then as soon as I engage the PTO the 3 point goes up and will not go down. Any help on where to start on this problem will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric

I was bush hogging with a 9N Ford one time about half asleep and all of a sudden I heard the PTO shaft hitting the mower as if I had lifted it too high. Kicked the PTO out of gear and ran it to the barn. Tore into it and the linkage going down to the control valve had a pin that the cotter had worked out and the pin was in the sump. Replaced pin and new cotter pin and all was well. Without the pin in place, it wouldn't go down. I would guess thats what is wrong with yours. Post back and let the board know if thats what it is. ohfred

Thanks, I went to the fergusonenthusiasts web site and found some information about my 3 point lift problem and now after inspection believe a spring is broken holding the control yoke to the control valve.
This control valve is at the bottom of the case and hard to see and the manual does not have a good picture of this area. Does anyone have a good picture, drawing or preferable a exploded view of the hydraulic pump and related linkage???
Thanks, Eric
