Ford 2000 PTO wont disengage

Hello all
I am new here and am not sure this is the right area for my post? if not please move it to correct forum (Moderators)

I have had my best friend for over 20 years shes alway been reliable and like most all equipment of this age is needing more and more repairs the older it gets.

Its cool I am a Mechanic with more tools and equipment than most shops as I enjoy fixing my own stuff.
I just purchased a factory repair manual for my rig but was wondering if anyone has insight on my current problem?

Current pressing bad problem My PTO will not disengage, just keeps spinning and will not disengage with the Clutch it never has It will engage and disengage with the lever on the side of the box but its all stop and go no in between and if their is a lode on the shaft it will grind while engaging it.

Again The lever on the side will engage and disengage the PTO BUT it grinds the gears on engaging it no matter the clutch position so I don't do that!!!!! I don't want to tear things up worse than they are!

I saw a couple You tube videos of guys title says stuck PTO clutch and they pull the PTO shaft BUT never elaborate or show whats going on inside the gear box really to show what a good fix is for this problem.

I have spoken to a few people who have said splitting the Tractor was necessary but I am not so sure ? I am ready to deal with my problem and would love to hear from any one else who has repaired this problem.

Not that I can tell? always felt like a normal clutch to me?

Numbers on side of case I have no data base to break numbers

6M16B
21023C
C162933 7A16

I was told by a New Holland Ford parts guy it was a 1965?
Its a 3 cyl gas engine. 3 point hitch with pto thats about all I know about it since I bought it 20+ years ago.

I am waiting on a new shop manual to come in mail I am sure I will be able to break it down then.

Other parts and repairs I need to do:
Generator took a dump yesterday may be the voltage regulator dont know yet but battery went dead yesterday.
Also need to find a good usable carburetor for it recent searches have shown it may be unabtainium hoping a new generator isnt.
Also looking for some front suspension stuff.

Breaks kinda work it will stop good but Parking break setting doesnt work at all.
of course wiring and fresh paint would be nice I will get around to that after I get every thing working as it should.

Model # 21923C is a 2000 all purpose with gas engine, 549 live pto and 8 spd transmission

6M16B is a date code of December 16, 1966 on day shift
But you have a second date code of 7A16 which is January 16, 1967

Serial # C162933 is for a 67 model tractor built in the US
I said 7A16 is the tractors assembly date and 6M16B is the transmissions assembly date

You have a early 67 model

With live pto that hasn t worked in 20 years the pto clutch is most likely stuck regardless of the clutches adjustment
You ll need to split the tractor for a clutch replacement

8 speed?????
Thats weird because as of this date I have never found a 4th gear just 3 with the Hi Lo stick although the trany shifter does move over enough to find a forth gear I have never found it.

I kinda figured I was gonna have to split her oh well I will take as an Omen to go threw the engine at the same time.

It looks like Yesteryear has the pistons rings and gaskets not sure about water pump and oil pump or all the rest of the gaskets I will need.

My Hydraulics under my seat is leaking a little and will take opportunity to deal with that as well after wards I will probably Blast it with Glass and Paint it.

IF I can get all the Parts first hand. Watched a video about the clutches their are many as it turns out I don't think its a good idea to order that till I get it apart to see whats in their....

OPINIONS PLEASE??????????

You have 4th and 8th gears on that tractor. Get it rolling in 2nd or 6th, just to the right/forward position of 1/5 extreme left and
forward with the stick....or go from 1/5) pull the stick back to N and jam it all the way to the right straight across the tranny, and then
forward. The faster the better and idle RPMs need to be low (easier for non-sync gears to sinc up). I thought I had a 6 speed for
many years until one day, forget the reasoning, I found 4/8. Was a happy camper......no decals didn't have enough numbers on the
housing (visable) to figure out just what it had and all that from the service/maintenance manual explanations.

If you have Live PTO (like my 3000) the PTO spins before the tractor moves via the clutch pedal. Depending on adjustment of the
linkage/wear on the dual stage clutch, about half way up on the pedal is where the PTO engages and stays engaged while you relax
the pressure on the pedal and it comes all the way up engaging the rear wheels. Now whether or not you have internal problems or
just your method of usage, who knows.
