Super delta injector pump

Hi, I have a new performance super dexta with a simms minimec P4696 pump. My issue is that I have fuel being delivered from no.1 and 3 delivery valves but not no.2. I have removed the side plate and observed all three plungers working as they should, therefore my issue I believe is with the delivery valve itself or the delivery spring. I need to remove the delivery valve holder. However would someone know where I can get hold of the required socket in Australia as I m having trouble locating one. Thanks.

Welcome to YT, as an old Ford and Fordson tractor mechanic may I offer you a bit of
advice. Take your pump off and take it to a diesel repair shop, I will guaranty that
you have neither the tools nor the conditions in which to work on it. I was trained
in the diesel shop of a Ford dealer and the injection pump is the only thing on my
tractor that I will not attempt to repair. If the pump is not correctly set after
repair it can cost you a new engine or at least a very expensive pump. This is my
opinion only and it is your tractor.

The problem could be a broken plunger spring or a jammed plunger. A delivery valve
tool is available from e-bay, both new and second hand. If you do strip the pump
out, be as clean as you can be, the clearances in the pump are very fine and even
holding two parts in your hands when they are dismantled, can cause them not to fit
back together. Any scratch marks on components can make the pump inoperable.

Where are you in Australia? I have a number of friends out there who may be able to
help, This site will not allow me to mention the name of the Fordson Club or post its contact details.

Sorry to sound a bit negative but I have seen a number of people cost themselves
lots of money by trying to repair their own injection equipment.

Hi majorman, thanks for your reply. I too am an old diesel mechanic cut my teeth on ford tractors and toft cane harvesters. I split the pump today and found the number 2 element spring is broken. Will contact a few fellas I know on Tuesday to find some new ones. Thanks again for your info.

Very informative reply ,Id say cause you never want to incur more cost than is absolutely necessary to correctly resolve the issue the first time.
Id ask your pump jobber for references , what experience that have with this pump.
Im a novice when comes to pumps ,but I seek out the very best jobber I could find to repair my tractor pump. Quality cost less !

That's it Dennis, talking to the old fellas who have worked on things for years out of necessity if usually your best option , provided you know what your doing. Anyhow back to my minimec, I replaced all three springs, new oil put it back together and she purrs like a kitten.
