FORDSON SUPER DEXTA

Hi,
I am trying to rewire a dexta with a loom supplied by Agriline, not thrilled by the quality. However the loom supplied has a wire ,yellow green, which it says should be connected to the AL terminal on the regulator, but my regulator(new) has not got an AL terminal, just four round holes marked A,F,E and D.
That's the first question of a multi=parter.i find the wiring diagram quite hard to square with what i see on the instrument panel but it may be me being thick,i have been told i can be.
Thankful for any help,
Peter

That wiring loom is a very poor version, it bears little resemblance to the original Fordson loom. As far as I am concerned it is just a bundle of wires. The AL wire will go to the same terminal as A. In a five terminal regulator with A and A1 terminals, they are both inked together in the regulator.

Hi Majorman,
Many thanks for the reply,i would absolutely agree with your opinion on the new wiring loom.My next question is this;
As well as the AL wire the diagram shows the live feed for the push button cold start and the ignition switch should also be taken from the A terminal which due to size restrictions is not possible. The only way i can see to do this is to break the yellow wire before it enters the regulator A terminal and take the feeds from there.Using a properly insulated connector what do you think of the idea?.As a matter of interest do you know of another company that produces better quality tractor parts?,

Peter

The other way to do it would be to take an extra wire from the battery side of the solenoid to the ignition switch and heater button, that is where the A wire ends up anyway. I do not know of a different loom maker as most of the after market sellers get their looms from the same place, The Land Of Nearly Right. I am lucky because I have all the wire I need as part of my job, so I make my own looms.

I have asked around and most recommend a company called Autosparks here in the UK. They supply true replicas built by hand to original specifications. Prices are inline with the aftermarket suppliers. Google them, if they do not send to the US, let me know and we will see if I can arrange something.

Hi Majorman,
Thanks for the replies, like you say there's always more than one way to do the job.I will pass the message on regarding parts,it is not my tractor but i am helping out.Once again many thanks fot the help,
Peter

You do not support Ipswich do you? I am in the middle of Norfolk!!!! ;0) No problem with you contacting Autosparks then, they are just outside Nottingham and come with very high recommendations from people who have used them.

Hi Brian(hope that's right),
No i'm afraid i don't support Ipswich,i'm more a rugby supporter, though why i bother with the current England set up i don't know.I think my cousin, who i am doing the work for, has been to a rally around Diss somewhere so you may well have crossed paths though unknowingly,

I used to go to the East of England Vintage Show on the Norfolk Show Ground with my petrol/paraffin E1ADKN Major and my petrol Dexta until mobility issues put the brakes on that. Now I just potter around on my land in the village, so may not have come across him.

Any problems and my e-mail, bheatbtconnectdotcom is always open if I can help in any way. ( just as long as you do not support Ipswich). ;0)

Brian

Hi Brian,
I get the message about Ipswich.Sorry to hear you have mobility issues but will certainly note your email address for future reference.Tony is hoping to take the Dexta to a rally near Diss next weekend.I am following your suggestion of an additional power line, seems to make more sense.I am hoping to test the new loom next week,so fingers crossed,
Peter

Hi Brian,
I hope you don't mind me troubling you again with wiring problems. When i tried connecting the AL wire to the A terminal the warning light would come on when battery connected but go out when ignition turned on.On the wiring diagram the warning lights are shown as having a common power wire for both. The oil warning light seemed to operate normally in that it came on when ignition turned on and went out when it was turned off.Do you think the AL wire belongs somewhere else?.I had the tractor running and everything else worked but the charging system.I tried sending this message to the address you gave me but it was blocked for some reason,
Peter

Will do some checking Peter but usually that should work as A should go to Battery and A1 is the output to the electrical system and they are connected in the regulator. E-mail should work, been the same for many years and I get mails from all over the world, some of which are not wanted at times.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for that,as you say it looks as though what you suggested should work. The only thing i wonder is does the power line to both warning lights make a difference?I am going tomorrow to have another go and will double check exactly what is happening and let you know. The email i sent was to [email protected],was that right?,
Peter

No Peter, just bhe@. Worked out the problem I think, A should go to the battery terminal on the solenoid, A1 should go to the ignition switch terminal marked BAT from the same solenoid terminal. No extra wire needed.

Hi Brian,
Great i'll try that and let you know how it goes.Sorry for screwing up the email address but i'll try messaging you on the amended one,
Peter
